St.
Joseph County Archives
Subject
of May Meeting
Did your ancestors live in
the eastern part of La Porte County? Were they really in La Porte
County? The border between St. Joseph County and La Porte County
wasn’t always where it now is. Some folks who did reside in La
Porte County found it much easier or more interesting to travel east
to South Bend, rather than west to Michigan City or La Porte.
Find out what historical
records of your family could be in the Archives and Records Center of
St. Joseph County, 1140 S. Lafayette Blvd. South Bend. The
Archivist/Records Manager, Ms. Vicky Rydzynski, will present a
program entitled “What the St. Joseph County Archives Can Do for
You” at the May 13, 2014, meeting of the La Porte County, Indiana
Genealogical Society. The business meeting will start promptly at
7:00 pm, CDT, at the Parks Department Meeting Room at 250 Pine Lake
Avenue, La Porte. Refreshments and the program will follow. Visitors
are always welcome at the meeting.
The society meets at 7 pm
on the second Tuesday of each month, weather permitting, at the La
Porte City Parks and Recreation Department building at 250 Pine Lake
Avenue. Coming up soon is the deadline for residency applications.
If you had an ancestor who came to La Porte County early, check the
certification categories link from the main page of the web site. For
more information about the society's activities in awards, research,
abstracting, transcribing, indexing, publishing, and records
preservation, visit our web
