March 2014 genealogy meeting wrapup

Note the change in the meeting time! A decision at the March meeting will slightly change the order of the meeting. The business meeting will start promptly at 7:00, and the social time and refreshment period will come between the business meeting and the program.

The deadline for reservations for the trip to the Allen County Public Library is coming up! Contact Patricia Harris or check the website before April 4!

Tuesday, March 11, the La Porte County Indiana Genealogical Society met at the La Porte City Parks and Recreation Department Headquarters on Pine Lake Avenue in La Porte. Fifteen members and guests were in attendance.

After a business meeting presided over by President Dorothy Palmer, the group enjoyed a presentation by Marlene Polster, a genealogical librarian at Porter County Public Library and an active officer and committee member in local and state genealogical societies. She spoke on “What Will Happen to your Genealogical Research when You Die?” The talk outlined to whom to give it, how to make sure that your wishes are honored, what you should plan to pass on, and the preparation you should do in order to increase the value of your legacy. She gave the audience a suggested form for a “Genealogical Codicil to My Last Will and Testament.”

Next month, on Tuesday, April 8, the program will be “DNA for Genealogists”, presented by Jeffrey Bassett.

Remember that the website, at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~inlcigs/, has details and forms for Genealogist of the Year and Residency awards
