December 2010 dinner meeting

If this is December, it must be time for the La Porte County Genealogical Society's annual dinner meeting, Tuesday, December 14 at the Swanson Center for Older Adults, 910 State Street, La Porte. Paid reservations are due by Monday, December 6 ($10.50 members, $12.50 non-members). Checks may be mailed to the La Porte County (IN) Genealogical Society, 904 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, IN 46350. Social time starts at 6:00 p.m. with a catered dinner at 6:30 p.m. For further information, call (219) 326-6458 or e-mail netster@csinet.net.

There will no regular business meeting, but there will be plenty of conversation and awards. The first annual Genealogist of the Year award will be presented, and eleven Residency Certificates will be given out to those who have proved ancestors' residency in La Porte County.

On the eleven other months of the year, the society meets at 7 pm on the second Tuesday at the Swanson Center. The public is welcome at all meetings. For a list of upcoming programs and more information about the society's activities in awards, research, publication, and records preservation, visit our web site.

Also at our web site, those who believe they have La Porte County ancestors (and can prove it!) can find information on how to apply for First Families of La Porte (before December 1840), Pioneer Families (1841-1860), Settler Families (1861-1880), and Civil War Families (1861-1865). You can also read or search back issues of the society's newsletter, December 2005 through December 2009, including genealogical and historical information from members' research and abstracting work in local records, at
