January 2015 Meeting Release

La Porte County (IN) Genealogical Society

Genealogical Society members will be looking through old albums and boxes of family pictures, preparing to share memories with the attendees at the next monthly meeting of the society, on Tuesday, January 13, 2015. The meeting will begin at seven PM, at the La Porte Park Department office building at 250 Pine Lake Avenue.
Following the meeting, the program will be a show-and-tell by the members. The theme will be postcards or photos of La Porte County structures or businesses. If a person is in the photo, or if you know the story of the business or structure, Tell us the connection. Each member will have a brief opportunity to speak.

2014 Genealogist of the Year Award Presented

Of the La Porte County (IN) Genealogical Society
The La Porte County (IN) Genealogical Society met at ‘Round the Clock restaurant on Tuesday, December 9,   2014. The meeting was called to order by the President, Dorothy Palmer. A business meeting was omitted, except for the announcement of the program for the January meeting. Fifteen members and guests enjoyed a holiday meal and discussion.
Following the meal, the committee for the Genealogist of the Year Award was called upon. Chairperson Gloria Arndt, speaking for committee members Fern Eddy Schultz and Dorothy Palmer, explained that the award honors a recipient for service to the area of genealogy in La Porte County. The Genealogist of the Year Award is given to a living individual who has promoted genealogy in La Porte County, IN by publications, programs, and/or by assisting others in their search for source records. This would also include someone who has abstracted, indexed, and/or taught about source records or methodology. Arndt then announced that the recipient for 2014 was Alan Zeller, who has served as an officer of the society and presented programs at society meetings.
